Take Me

320ce9e699411dce4b38a8905392c1ff

Heavy footsteps thud across the floor

The rapping of a cane demands attention

Cloaked in black from head to foot

His pointed boot heels caked in mud

A dusty black hat shadows his bearded face

Metallic dampness envelopes me

I shudder though the fire roars bright

Death stands rigid his shadow looms

Gold rimmed teeth glint a smile

He likes to charm the ladies

The fire flickers a manic dance

I feel so cold my bones feel raw

A voice smooth as velvet says good evening

I say you weren’t invited please leave

With a menacing laugh he replies oh but I am

He pours me red wine it glistens like rubies

The glass is so close I must I can’t resist

A wave of soothing liquid envelopes me

Warmth floods my ageing useless limbs

I’m floating adrift on a silver sea

How do I get back it’s taking me

But I feel nothing for once there is no pain

Forget this he says you’re now with me

He hands me the glass and nods his head

The white light sparkles so bright

I’m now free
