Our lips, the silent architects of our identity, whisper tales of joy, sorrow, and resilience, each curve and crease a chapter in the book of our lives.

The Mouth

lipsgif

A mouth will betray you

It doesn’t hide

Your past, struggles or desires

It’s years of words, grimaces, and smiles

Weathered from sun, wind and rain

Holding back stress and feeling pain

Look around you, at the mouth you see

Let your mind imagine who they might be

There’s a scarlet tinctured gash swearing profanities

Lips like a rose bud singing words pure and sweet

Luscious peach lips that make you bow and weep

Smokers’ lips, stained and lined

Their putrid breath stings your eyes

Others painted scarlet, tough and thin

Hiding secrets deep within

Or natural, pale, dry and grim

Lacking wisdom, love, life or fun

There are lips like a lizard

Nervous with devious intent

Some have whiskers and lipstick so seriously bent

Witty and intellectual lines, smug with knowledge

Luscious full lips tantalise and tease

Blubbery lips yapping after too many wines

Then there’s the perfection of a model’s leer

Austere and cool, they have no fear

No match for a newborn’s smile

The angelic beauty soft and sweet

So joyful, innocent, a full life to seek

Without even words, your mouth can tell a story…

Love both the musicality and the journey this takes us on. So well done!

Thank you! This is an old poem of mine that I rewrote. It’s interesting looking back at poems when I first started my blog. Some where and are so primitive. Ive had no idea of how to write a poem. The more you write the easier it comes.

This is fantastic. It had my mouth stretched tight across my face and curled upward in the corners? Strange. My eyes however raced across the next line eager to be shocked or soothed by your sweat and sour, contradictive, juxtaposed, brilliantly composed poem. I am going to direct a friend of mine to this poem. I think you’ll have a new fan as soon as he gets wind of this.
    Bravo my Australian friend.
I hope you are well, apologies for my lack of activity, my plate is little less full and so maybe I can return to my writing. Watch this space kid,

Thank you dear Henry! I was happy with how this poem progressed. I too have an overflowing plate with a stressful new full time job which allows very little time for my own self indulgence. I look forward to more of yours 🙂

I really cannot express just how good I think this poem is. I wish I could more than like it. I hope you can continue to find time to write these little pearls of poetry. I think I need them, 😋

I wish I too could drag some more out. Working full time really dulls my creative energy somewhat. I almost feel the sodden clump of my brain merely pulsing with life after a day at work.

Your inner creator will endure, trust me. The soul crushing machine of society cannot tame it. It is tameless.
