Little Creatures
Little creatures with furry hides
Run and scuttle from every stride
Innocents with simple minds
To seek, eat and always hide
Small beating hearts under shadows of wings
Seeking safety from all beasty things
A Cockatoo screeches it’s warrior song
Creature spotted near a Billabong
A warning cry to his lagging mates
A furry creature ahead now waits
Amongst the reeds and the rushes
Hiding under a tree of singing thrushes
The Cockies search along the river
Seeking out all those that quiver
Their persistence to cause trouble
To creatures that do stop and huddle
A forceful wind blows howling loud
Cockatoos screech in a chorus crowd
Alas the land blows all things bare
The wind exposes the furry hare
Little creature shook its hairy frame
It’s perilous run was now in vain
In one loud swoop it’s fate is sealed
Little creature is now a Cockie’s meal
