STAINED REFLECTIONS
By Wendy Norman
She sat by the window in her castle tower
Hearing the roar of the deep sea shore
Watching the waves roll in each hour
Dreaming faraway places his ship will stray
Will he forget her in a night or a day
Remembering his kiss on her smooth brow
Feeling the grains of sand trickle by the hour
His eye were deep like a bottomless ocean
Capturing her with her life’s devotion
Wanting to sleep now until his waking kiss
Her pillow a buttress with memories of bliss
Let her solitude be her treasure trove
Of memories of love she once did know
A tapestry of events weave threads like vine
Entangling her mind in the caverns of time
The clouds sweep by leaving wispy trails
Curling like ships in fleets full sail
Her hopes disappearing like puffs of smoke
As time dissolves all feelings of hope
Her maiden dreams were not enough
She paced the tower in a withered huff
Each step to drown her fire of feelings
Deep was the wounds that needed healing
To cupids arrow they had been prey
But not so ample to make him stay
Her tears fell like perfect diamonds
The dark shadows threatened to widen
Spirits of abandoned maidens called
Luring her as they shrilled and balled
Screamed their curses from castle graves
Rising from their cobwebbed caves
Hands outstretched to end her pain
Another soul for them to gain
Tortured by her lonely grief
Resolution and at last relief
The ghosts of maidens laughed with glee
As she jumped from her tower into the sea!
