Blue Bells
Amid the cheery christmas songs
Jingle bells and churches dongs
Ladies proposed to by their man
Families together making plans
The festive parties of end of year
Children playing with no fear
But some folks feel sadness deep
Crying quietly in their sleep
Memories of a loved one lost
Aloneness creeping on like frost
Chilling their bones despite the heat
Of winters fire or rum they sneak
Others fearful how to provide
Or even how they will survive
Their wallets empty the cupboards bare
The children look with hungry stares
Can Santa please remember me
Is all they sing with desperate pleas
Some even sleep out in the night
Woken by a drunken fight
Casual compassion is sprinkled spare
By walkers by that think they care
They offer concern like a fast food snack
That fills their conscious karma sack
This time of year is no different here
The only change is the christmas cheer
Show love support and understanding
Be tolerant of those that are falling
A solitary branch supports the bird
Its song of life must be heard
